3 Bible Verses to Inspire Your Fitness Journey

Faith and fitness might seem like two separate areas of life, but they’re deeply connected. Taking care of your body—God’s temple—is a way to honor Him, and Scripture offers plenty of encouragement to stay motivated and focused on your health goals. Here are three powerful Bible verses to inspire your fitness journey and remind you that God is with you every step of the way.

1. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

This verse reminds us that our bodies are a gift from God, and caring for them is an act of worship. Whether you’re going for a walk, stretching, cooking a nourishing meal or spending time reading your Bible, you’re honoring the Creator who designed you.

Think about how it feels when you don’t honor your body. Who feels good after eating a bunch of sugar or skipping a workout? No one! Personally, in the past I’ve had days where I opted for convenience over care—grabbing fast food instead of something nutritious or skipping exercise because I was “too tired.” The result? I ended up feeling sluggish, irritable, and far from my best self. Honoring your body doesn’t just please God; it genuinely makes you feel better, too.

2. Isaiah 40:29-31

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

On days when you feel too tired to work out or stick to your goals, remember this promise. God truly sustains us in our weakness. Lean into His power when you feel weak, and trust that He will renew your energy and motivation.

I encourage you to lean into this verse when you feel tempted to skip your workout after a long day. When we pause to pray and ask God for strength, I believe He gives us the energy to move our bodies. Not only that, but by the end of the workout, we are left feeling more energized and at peace.

3. Philippians 4:13

I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

Fitness journeys can be challenging, but this verse is a powerful reminder that you’re not doing it alone. Whether you’re pushing through a tough workout or resisting unhealthy temptations, God’s strength is your ultimate resource.

I remember a particularly difficult hike when I felt like giving up halfway through. Instead of stopping, I started repeating this verse in my mind with each step. It became a rhythm that carried me forward, and by the end, I felt both accomplished and deeply connected to God’s strength in a tangible way.
