Microsoft’s Commitment: Training 10 Million People in Digital and AI Skills by 2030

Microsoft has announced an ambitious plan to invest 3 billion dollars in India over the next two years, focusing on expanding its capabilities in the cloud computing sector and artificial intelligence (AI).

This project, presented by the CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella during the Microsoft AI Tour in Bangalore, represents the company’s largest expansion in the country.

According to Nadella, this initiative will not only strengthen Microsoft’s technological presence in India, but will also help transform the country’s digital ecosystem. 

The investment includes the creation of nuovi data center, the expansion of Azure platform capabilities, and targeted training for millions of people.

A key element of the plan is the training of 10 million people in skills related to artificial intelligence and cloud by 2030. 

By 2026, Microsoft, in collaboration with INDIAai – an initiative of the Indian government – plans to train 500,000 people. 

This training will be aimed at students, educators, developers, government officials, and entrepreneurs, promoting inclusivity in the technology sector.

The president of Microsoft India, Puneet Chandok, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating that the company has already trained over 2.4 million people since 2024. 

Furthermore, Microsoft aims to create “AI Catalysts” to foster innovation in smaller cities and underserved communities.

Strategic collaborations for the digital future

Microsoft is strengthening its presence in India also through strategic partnerships with major local companies.

Among these are RailTel, Apollo Hospitals, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra Group and upGrad. These collaborations will allow leveraging cloud and AI technologies to improve business processes and offer innovative solutions to customers.

An additional advantage will be offered to Indian startups thanks to Microsoft’s Founders Hub program, which includes Azure credits, business resources, and mentoring sessions for up to 1,000 startups focused on artificial intelligence.

Microsoft’s investment is also a response to the growing demand for advanced technologies in India. Nadella highlighted how the entrepreneurial energy of the country offers fertile ground to develop a next-generation AI ecosystem. 

The expansion of Azure infrastructures will be fundamental to support these initiatives, ensuring adequate computing capacity and greater digital connectivity.
