Celio plans retail expansion with 100 new stores in India over the next 3 years

French men’s apparel brand Celio India is targeting to add 100 stores in the next two to three years, according to Satyen Momaya, CEO of Celio Future Fashion.

With 65 stores across 25 cities, the company plans to aggressively expand its retail footprint. Momaya shared, “We have identified significant opportunities in retail, particularly in expanding direct retail stores, and have located approximately 40 malls and nine high streets for expansion, aiming to open around 50 stores within our existing cities.”

Additionally, the brand plans to expand into tier-two and tier-three cities with plans to add another 50 to 60 stores. In the last 18 months, Celio has added nearly 20 stores to its network.

Momaya explained the company’s regional focus, noting that Celio’s top 11 cities currently account for 75 per cent of its business, with the South being its strongest market, followed by the North, West, and East. “North India will be our primary focus for retail expansion, especially in Delhi NCR, parts of Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. Following this, we will target expansion in the South, West, and East,” he added.

In addition to offline expansion, the apparel brand aims for multi-channel growth. Currently, 7 per cent of the company’s revenue comes from e-commerce platforms such as Myntra, Ajio, and Amazon, and Momaya expects this percentage to rise. “We are looking at about 12 to 14 per cent of our revenue coming from digital,” he explained.

Strengthen manufacturing

The company is focusing on strengthening its manufacturing capabilities in India to reduce its dependence on imports. Currently, 50 per cent of its range is manufactured in India through third-party vendors, while the remaining 50 per cent is imported. However, the company plans to reduce the import component to 35-40 per cent and increase local sourcing to 60 per cent by next year.

Moreover, Celio is starting to shift a significant portion of its global sourcing to India. Momaya detailed, “Three years ago, less than 1 per cent of our global sourcing came from India, which has increased to 7 per cent.”

Founded in 2009, Celio India is the subsidiary of the French men’s retail brand Celio. The brand entered India through an equal partnership with Future Group, which later acquired a majority stake in the firm. Going forward, Momaya expects the Indian arm to contribute between 5 and 8 per cent of the global revenue.
