Deel’s workplace trends forecast for 2025

It’s that time of the year when everyone is crystal-gazing on likely trends for next year. Global payroll and compliance platform Deel has put out a long list of workplace trends it sees gaining traction in 2025. Among these are:

Remote husband — This is a trend that’s flipping the script on traditional gender roles. As more men, especially in tech or engineering jobs, have the option to work remotely, this is allowing couples to prioritise the wife’s career climb. No more turning down that dream promotion which involves moving cities.

Hushed hybrid — As ‘return to the office’ mandates are increasing across the world, employees are tiptoeing back into office. But shh, don’t tell anyone — some managers are secretly letting their teams still work remotely.

‘Alonement’ — Work-from-home has spoilt us and left us awkward in company. The buzz of open offices can feel like a total culture shock after chill WFH vibes. Taking cognisance, “alonement” spaces are popping up, giving introverts a cozy hideaway and fortress of solitude right in the workplace.

New-collar worker — Meet the “new collar” crew (workers without a formal college degree but with technical skills). These workers are snagging top-tier jobs. Welcome to the era where skills pay the bills.

Naked quitting — This new trend is emerging particularly among young employees in China. It refers to workers ditching jobs without a backup plan. Fed up with pressure and rigidity, they’re seeking roles that prioritise well-being and work-life balance.

Changed time-off policies — Leave policies at many organisations are getting rewritten, with companies granting heartbreak, menstrual, pawternity, and even Tinder leave! Say ‘goodbye’ to traditional sick days and ‘hello’ to a world where your boss supports your dating life and mental well-being. More Gen Z employees are calling in sick, citing mental health.
