Sun Mobility is set to establish nearly 100 battery-swapping centres across Bengaluru Metro stations, integrating EV infrastructure with public transport. This expansion will cover the entire metro network.
Currently, Bengaluru sees approximately 22,000 vehicle swaps monthly at Sun Mobility’s stations, averaging 100 swaps per station per day and consuming 130-140 kilowatt-hours daily.
“We will have around 100 plus stations in Bengaluru Metro as well, covering throughout the length and breadth of the network,” said Anant Badjatya, CEO, IndoFast Energy – a 50:50 Joint Venture of IOCL and SUN Mobility.
Strategically located in parking areas and auto stands, these battery-swapping stations cater to passengers traveling to and from metro trains. Over the last month, these stations have catered to 19,000 vehicles throughput. On average, each BMRCL station has served approximately 2800 vehicles, including 2300 2-wheeler trips and 500 3-wheeler trips.

Together, we aim to expand this initiative city-wide, fostering a transformative impact on urban transportation.”
Backed by IndianOil, which has invested $78.3 million in the company Sun Mobility has formed a 50:50 joint venture, IndoFast Energy, with IndianOil. IOCL has committed Rs 1,800 crores in equity. The partnership aims to establish over 10,000 swapping stations across 40 cities within three years, investing more than $1 billion.
With more than 630 swapping stations across 20 cities, using upwards of 50,000 smart batteries, Sun Mobility has enables over a million swaps per month.
