Ex-WEX CEO Detained in Poland for US Trial

WEX’s former Russia-based CEO Dmitry V. was detained in Warsaw at the Polish authorities’ initiative following an extradition warrant issued by the United States. Dmitry is under indictment for fraud and money laundering through WEX that succeeded BTC-e, which shut down in 2018. Currently, sentenced to twenty years in prison in Lithuania, Dmitry has previously been arrested in Poland in 2021 and in Croatia in 2022. WEX reportedly handled $9 billion and is still associated with an embezzlement of $450 million. This is another phase of crypto regulation after the ruling of Alexander Vinnik in relation to operations of BTC-e.
