India’s domestic air passenger traffic grew by 11.90 per cent in November 2024 on a year-on-year basis, official data showed on Monday.
As per the data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s scheduled domestic flight operators ferried around 1.42 crore passengers last month. In November 2023, the traffic number stood at 1.27 crore. On a sequential basis, 1.36 crore passengers were ferried by domestic airlines in October 2024.
Annual growth
“Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January–November 2024 were 14.64 crore as against 13.82 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year thereby registering an annual growth of 5.91 per cent and monthly growth of 11.90 per cent,” the report said.
According to the data, IndiGo achieved the highest market share among all the domestic airlines during the month under review. The airline ferried 90.70 lakh passengers in November 2024 to attain a market share of 63.6 per cent.
Air India
IndiGo was followed by Air India Group (including Air India Express), which carried 34.73 lakh passengers to attain a market share of 24.4 per cent. Meanwhile till November 11, 2024, Vistara carried 4.15 lakh passengers for a 2.9 per cent share. Vistara merged with Air India, effective November 12, 2024.
The data showed that budget carrier SpiceJet flew 4.43 lakh to reach a market share of 3.1 per cent, and Akasa Air carried 6.74 lakh to attain a share of 4.7 per cent.
Besides, Alliance Air’s market carried 0.97 lakh passengers to get a share of 0.7 per cent, followed by Star Air, which carried 0.57 lakh to get a share of 0.4 per cent.
Highest PLF
Furthermore, the traffic report showed that Akasa Air had the highest passenger load factor (PLF) during the month under review at 92.6 per cent. Akasa Air was followed by IndiGo at 90.3 per cent and Vistara at 88 per cent.
The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines last month stood at 1.25 per cent.
