Bharti Airtel unveils AI-powered solution to combat spam calls, SMS

Bharti Airtel has revealed significant insights into spam communication patterns after launching its advanced AI-powered spam-fighting solution, the company disclosed in a press release on Monday.

In just two and a half months, Airtel’s network flagged 8 billion spam calls and 0.8 billion spam SMSes, identifying nearly 1 million spammers daily. The AI-driven system detected that 6 per cent of all calls and 2 per cent of all SMSes on its network were spam.

The shares of Bharti Airtel Limited were trading at ₹1,603.30 up by ₹5.45 or 0.34 per cent on the NSE today at 12.10 pm.

Delhi emerged as the epicentre of spam activity, receiving the most spam calls and generating the highest number of such communications. Male customers aged 36-60 were the primary targets, accounting for 48 per cent of spam calls. Notably, spam call volumes peak between noon and 3 pm and drop by 40 per cent on Sundays.

The report highlighted that 35 per cent of spammers used landline telephones, and devices priced between ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 received approximately 22 per cent of spam calls. The company also observed a 12 per cent decline in customers answering suspicious calls after being alerted.

Airtel claims this initiative establishes it as the first Indian service provider to offer a comprehensive spam solution, prioritizing customer privacy and convenience.
