IRCTC outage: “technical glitch” being resolved, says officials

India’s IRCTC – the Railways ticket booking and catering service – faced a massive outage on Thursday morning, following a “technical glitch”.

Users were unable to access its website and mobile application.

IRCTC said the outage was due to schedule maintenance activities and an official told businessline, “the issue has now been resolved.”

“Due to maintenance activity, e-ticketing service will not be available,” the message on the IRCTC website said previously.

According to a website, Downdetector – which tracks outage reports across websites – there were 2,500-odd complaints about the unavailability of the online ticketing service.

Downdetector mentioned, 56 per cent of the complaints were mostly around the IRCTC website outage, 30 per cent around app outage and 14 per cent of the complaints were around ticketing. Spike in complaint were noticed post 9 am Thursday-odd.

One user took to X (formerly Twitter), at around 10 am, to point out that the IRCTC site was down, and ticket booking activities were not taking place.

This marks the second time in December that the IRCTC portal faced a disruption.

In a separate advisory, the company suggested that passengers looking to cancel their tickets could do so by either calling customer care or emailing their ticket details for a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR).
