The Tamil Nadu government on Monday tabled a Bill in the Assembly to amend the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Act, 2017 (Act) proposing waiver of interest, penalty or both.

P Moorthy, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration, moving the Bill, said that the Act provides for levy and collection of tax on intra-supply of goods or services or both.
The GST Council, in its 54th meeting held on September 9, recommended for conditional waiver of interest and penalty in respect of demand notices, except the ones with respect to erroneous refund and to implement the recommendations with effect, from November 24.

The CGST has been amended, and to carry out the corresponding amendment, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to amend the TNGST suitably, he said.
