The Canadian Game Awards returns on February 15

The Canadian Game Awards will return on February 15th, 2025, at 8pm ET to honour Canada’s massive video game industry.

Produced by esports organizer Northern Arena, the last Canadian Game Awards were held in April 2023, with the show later sitting out 2024. In a brief social media post, the Canadian Game Awards confirmed that the next ceremony will take place live from Toronto’s iconic TIFF Lightbox.

For now, further details on the show are scarce, but the official website confirms that the public will be able to purchase tickets to attend the gala, which will run for an hour-and-a-half. On social media, the Canadian Game Awards also says to “stay tuned for more announcements, ticket info, and exciting updates.”

In 2023, the Canadian Game Awards was split across two days, with the first night focused on indie games and the second night featuring both indies and AAA titles. Tunic, the Zelda-esque action-adventure game from Halifax’s Andrew Shouldice, ultimately won big during both shows. This year, however, the Canadian Game Awards will honour all kinds of Canadian games in a single show.

It remains to be seen what games will be nominated for the 2025 show, but some of the most notable Canadian releases in the past year include Balatro (an anonymous Canadian developer named LocalThunk), 1000xResist (Vancouver’s Sunset Visitor), Dragon Age: The Veilguard (BioWare Edmonton) and Lil’ Guardsman (Toronto’s Hilltop Studios).

It’s worth noting that B.C.-based Reboot Communications initially produced the ‘Canadian Video Game Awards.’ The last Canadian Video Game Awards was held back in 2016, with a planned 2017 event ultimately being cancelled. Northern Arena eventually came forward with its own version of the show, the Canadian Game Awards, holding a digital ceremony in September 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequent shows were held in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
