Asus unveils new line of ROG gaming PCs at CES 2025

Asus announced several new additions and updates to its Republic of Gamers (ROG) hardware line at CES 2025.

Announcements include updates to its Zephyrus and Strix laptops, an updated Flow Z13 2-in-1 and more — much with new Nvidia hardware. So, let’s get into all the updates.

Strix

Starting with the Strix line, Asus announced new models of the Strix SCAR sporting Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processors paired with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU. The SCAR laptops also feature ROG’s intelligent cooling tech with a custom vapour chamber, sandwiched heatsink and tri-fan tech.

Moreover, Asus highlighted the use of “Conductonaut” liquid metal on the CPU and GPU to keep temperatures lower and improve cooling.

The SCAR laptops feature ROG Nebula HDR mini-LED displays with up to 240Hz refresh rates and peak brightness of 1200nits. Other hardware details include 64GB of DDR5 RAM, 4TB PCIe Gen4 SSD in RAID 0, tool-less access for upgrading memory and storage and an ‘AniMe Vision’ array on the lid for external customization.

The Strix SCAR 18 will start at $3,999 in Canada for the Intel Core Ultra 275HX and RTX 5070 Ti variant with 32GB of RAM. The SCAR 16 will start at $3,799 with the 275HZ and RTX 5070 with 32GB of RAM.

Joining the SCAR series are the Strix G16 and G18. The Strix G laptops will run on the same Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX chip in Canada and there will be a global variant with AMD’s Ryzen 9 9955HX or 9955HX3D chips too. On the GPU side, the Strix G series features Nvidia’s RTX 5080, 5070 Ti, or 5070 laptop GPUs. The laptops ship with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and the same 2.5K 240Hz ROG Nebula display.

The G16 will start at $3,299 in Canada for the Core 9 Ultra 275HX variant with the RTX 5070 Ti and 32GB of RAM. The G18 will start at $3,499 for the same configuration.

Zephyrus

Moving along to the Zephyrus laptops, Asus didn’t do much with the external design here, choosing to keep things how they were with the previous model. (I went hands-on with the Zephyrus laptops last year and honestly, the designs are fantastic if you want a gaming laptop that doesn’t look like a gaming laptop.)

Instead, Asus focused on boosting the Zephyrus G14 and G16 with new internals, including the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H, AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 or AI 9 HX 370 CPUs and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti or 5070 laptop GPUs. In Canada, the Zephyrus G14 will ship with AMD chips, while the Zephyrus G16 will ship with Intel options.

Both laptops sport ROG Nebula OLED displays, with some differences. The G14 sports a 3K, 120Hz panel, while the G16 features a 2.5K panel with up to a 240Hz refresh rate.

The Zephyrus G14 will be available in Canada starting in April 2025 for $3,699. That configuration will include the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU, the RTX 5070 Ti laptop GPU and 32GB of RAM.

The Zephyrus G16 will also be available in April starting at $4,299 for the Core Ultra 9 285H chip and 5070 Ti configuration with 64GB of RAM.

Flow, Mobile and more

Wrapping up Asus ROG announcements is the ROG Flow Z13, a 2-in-1 gaming tablet in the vein of Microsoft’s Surface Pro. I reviewed an earlier version of the ROG Flow Z13, so I’m definitely intrigued by the updates this year.

Asus built the new ROG Flow on the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 platform with Radeon 8060S graphics. Asus highlighted that the chip features a “desktop-class CPU,” GPU and NPU all on a single die, making the Flow Z13 a great AI PC.

The Flow Z13 sports a 2.5K ROG Nebula 180Hz touchscreen display along with a kickstand and detachable keyboard. The Flow Z13 will launch in February 2025 and will start at $2,999 CAD.

Alongside the Flow Z13, Asus unveiled the ROG XG Mobile, an external graphics card to use with the Flow Z13. The XG Mobile sports an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity for a big gaming performance boost.

Asus said the XG Mobile is the “smallest and lightest” external GPU it has ever made and doesn’t sacrifice performance. The ROG XG Mobile will start at $1,499 for the 5070 Ti variant or $2,999 for the 5090 variant in Canada.

Finally, Asus showed off a new ROG Strix G700 series desktop PC sporting up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K chip along with up to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU. There will be other configurations sporting AMD Ryzen chips like the 7 9800X3D, but in Canada, the G700 will feature Intel chips. Other specs include up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM, air- and water-cooling configurations, tool-less access through the side and front panels, and more.

The G700 will become available in March 2025, starting at $3,199 for the Intel Core Ultra 7 265F variant with an RTX 5070 Ti GPU and 32GB of RAM.
