Boby Chemmannur, Kerala based businessman and the owner of Boby Chemmannur jewelry group, has been taken into custody by the Police based on a complaint filed by actress Honey Rose for making sexually inappropriate remarks on her.
A case was registered against Chemmannur under section 75 (4) (sexually coloured remarks) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material through electronic media) of the Information Technology Act 2000.
He was taken into custody from Wayanad and will be taken to Ernakulam Central Police Station for further interrogation.
The actress in her complaint filed with the police explained the sexual harassment she faced during the opening of Chemmannur’s jewellery store in Kannur on August 7. She also cited the difficulties faced on several other platforms after the inauguration of the jewellery store. Police also registered cases against 20 YouTubers for additional complaint filed by the actress for featuring her image in their videos.
Meanwhile, Boby Chemmannur denied of making any derogatory remarks on the actress, saying that he did not act with any wrong intention during the inauguration of jewellery showroom. He said he had compared the actress with Kunti Devi from the Mahabharata without any wrong intention. She filed the case before the police on misunderstanding even after the event held months back,, he said.
AMMA, (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) has extended all moral and legal support to Honey Rose to file complaint against Boby Chemmannur.
“We condemn the actions of all those who are trying to demean the womanhood of our fellow actor and association member Honey Rose through continued statements on social media. We offer our full support in her legal battle and will also provide any support to her if the need arises”, AMMA’s adhoc committee report shared on social media handles said.
