Samsung to launch AI smartphone subscription

Samsung is officially ready to roll out its AI subscription service.

According to ETNews, Samsung Electronics vice chair Han Jong-hee has confirmed that the company’s new hardware subscription service, the AI Subscription Club, will soon be available for Galaxy devices and the upcoming Ballie robot.

According to the report, Samsung plans to add the subscription service to Galaxy phones starting next month. As for the Ballie robot, Samsung plans to introduce it first in Korea and then in the U.S. It will get a subscription in Korea.

Although it was rumoured to only apply to AI features within Galaxy devices, previous usage of the service suggests it’ll be for the hardware itself.

Samsung launched the AI Subscription Club last December, intending to lower the cost of AI-powered devices. It works by allowing customers to use the devices for a certain period of time by paying a monthly fee, similar to a car lease.

Currently, Samsung uses the service for its AI-powered appliances (TVs, washing machines, etc.) to lower upfront costs and help customers easily obtain Samsung products. The service includes repairs and other care services to help customers with their devices.

The service has only been available in South Korea, and Samsung hasn’t unveiled any concrete plans to bring the subscription club to North America. Samsung has scheduled a new Galaxy Unpacked event for January 22, so it could debut the service then.
