As more leaks for Nintendo’s next console drop on a practically daily basis, there’s been one part of the hardware that’s puzzled people: a mysterious ‘C’ button on the right Joy-Con.
The new system, informally referred to as the ‘Switch 2,’ appears to retain its predecessor’s capture button on the left Joy-Con, so people were wondering what this additional ‘C’ button in various leaked renders could be. Now, we might have an answer.
Another day another Switch 2 leak.
This is by far the best look we’ve seen at what looks like Nintendo’s next Switch console.
This also appears to line up with all previous leaks including a USB-C on the top and bottom of the console and a C button on the right joycon. pic.twitter.com/NteL1x5swE

On the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, one leaker says datamines of the current Switch OS and exclusive SDK suggest the button stands for ‘Campus.’ Supposedly, this button would bring you to a dedicated hub for group and voice chat. This would be a marked change from the Switch, which doesn’t support native voice chat and instead forces you to rather awkwardly go through the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app.
The leaker also says the Switch 2 will support groups of up to 12 Nintendo Switch Online subscribers (indicating these features will be locked behind the membership), as well as screen sharing. However, they add that ‘Campus’ won’t feature anything like Miiverse, Nintendo’s social network for the 3DS and Wii U.
Still, it’s nice to see Nintendo finally adopt this modern functionality with its Switch 2, assuming this leak is indeed real. Other leaks point to the Switch 2 featuring a slightly larger display, magnetic Joy-Cons, a U-shaped kickstand and a mouse-like optical sensor. In any case, all signs point to us finding out the truth behind everything soon, with multiple credible sources suggesting that Nintendo will unveil the Switch 2 on January 16th.
We’ll have more on the Switch 2 if and when it finally gets revealed.
