Man City eye Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso

Manchester City have expressed interest in signing Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, but sources within the club insist that talks are not as advanced as some reports in Italy suggest, and there is no certainty a deal will be completed this month.

Pep Guardiola is eager to add an orthodox left-back to his squad, a position City have struggled to fill since the departure of Benjamin Mendy, who was suspended and later released following serious allegations, of which he was cleared in 2023.

Cambiaso, 24, joined Juventus in 2022 after progressing through Genoa’s youth system. The versatile Italy international, who can also play at right-back, spent a season on loan at Bologna before establishing himself as a first-team regular at Juventus. He featured in three of Italy’s four matches at Euro 2024 as a substitute and has made 25 appearances this season for Juventus, contributing two goals and two assists.

The full-back missed Juventus’ 2-0 Champions League victory over City in December due to an ankle injury.

City’s January transfer window has been unusually active. Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis is set to complete his move from Palmeiras after undergoing a medical. Additionally, the Premier League champions have agreed on a €40m (£33.6m) fee with Lens for 20-year-old Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov, although the deal has yet to be officially confirmed.

Talks are also ongoing with Eintracht Frankfurt for Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush. However, Frankfurt have denied reaching an agreement for the 25-year-old, who is expected to feature in their upcoming clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, City captain Kyle Walker’s future remains uncertain. Guardiola revealed the 34-year-old England international has requested to “explore other options,” signalling a potential departure.
