B.C. Taylor Swift fans break Rogers 5G data record

Fans attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Vancouver last weekend set the record for most ever used at a single event on Rogers’ 5G network.

Per the Toronto-based carrier, Vancouver Swifties used 11TB of mobile data during her December 8th show — the equivalent of 307,000 photos and 2,180 hours of video streaming. For context, this is well above the 7.4TB of data used on Rogers’ 5G network during Swift’s November 21st concert in Toronto.

In total, Rogers says Vancouver attendees used 32TB of data throughout Swift’s three concerts in the city. Toronto’s six shows, meanwhile, saw a total of 42TB of data being used. To prepare for Swift’s Vancouver and Toronto stops, Rogers invested $10 million and $8 million, respectively, into 5G infrastructure.

It’s worth noting that December 8th actually marked the final date of Swift’s massive, nearly two-year Eras Tour that spanned 149 shows across five continents and brought in over $2 billion USD (about $2.8 billion CAD) in revenue. During her concluding Vancouver shows, the popstar said she chose to end the tour in “beautiful” Vancouver because Canadian crowds are “so generous, so welcoming, so warm-hearted.”
