Xbox to bring Forza Horizon 5 to PS5 in April

Xbox will launch Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 on April 29th, marking the long-running popular racing series’ debut on PlayStation.

The PS5 port of the acclaimed 2021 racer was originally announced last month, but the April release date was confirmed as part of the February 27th reveal of a ‘Horizon Realms’ update to Horizon 5. The update will include four new cars, a new racetrack layout at the Horizon Stadium and an assortment of returning community favourite environments.

Forza Horizon 5 will cost $79.99, although a $129.99 Premium Edition will allow early access to the game on April 25th alongside various add-on packs, including one for a Hot Wheels crossover.

For years, the Forza series has been Xbox’s answer to PlayStation’s flagship Gran Turismo racing series. Starting in April, however, PlayStation fans will be able to play both series.

This is also the latest in an ever-growing lineup of Xbox games that have made their way to PlayStation. Last year, the company brought Rare’s Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush and Obsidian’s Pentiment and Grounded to PS5. (The last two games also came to Nintendo Switch.)

Machine Games’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was released on Xbox consoles and PC in December, is also slated to come to PS5 sometime “early” this year. And, finally, id Software’s Doom: The Dark Ages will launch on PS5 alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC on May 15th.

It’s worth noting that The Verge‘s Tom Warren, who has accurately reported early on several Xbox announcements, seemed to suggest on Bluesky that another Xbox game might be coming to PS5 in April.

Last month, credible leaker NateTheHate said that Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II would make their way to PS5 this year. Given Warren’s vague post, it’s unclear whether those are the games he’s alluding to.

In general, though, Microsoft has been open about its desire to bring its games to more platforms. Phil Spencer, the company’s CEO of Gaming, has noted that the console market isn’t growing anymore, meaning that games need to go multiplatform to reach larger audiences as they continue to become more expensive to develop.

Rival console maker PlayStation has also recognized this by slowly bringing more of its games to PC over the past few years. Last year, in particular, saw the company’s Helldivers II online shooter reach massive audiences thanks to a simultaneous PS5-PC launch.
