Why is it not called the State of the Union address?
Traditionally, State of the Union address is given to the members of both the houses of the US Congress and special invitees in January or February. During the speech, the incumbent US President looks back at the previous year and appraise the Government’s achievements and policies. However, since Donald Trump assumed office only on January 20th, the annual address would focus on delivering the vision, roadmap and policy goals for the upcoming years of the Presidency. Hence, the address would not officially be called the ‘State of the Union’ address. This has been the tradition followed by the US Presidents since Ronald Reagan and which also includes Trump’s first presidency.

The speech is scheduled to take place in the US House Chamber on Wednesday at 7:30 PM IST (9 PM EST, Tuesday).
