New Quest Software updates help accelerate enterprise adoption of PostgreSQL

Systems management, data protection and security software company Quest Software Inc. today announced two updates designed to accelerate the enterprise adoption of the open-source relational database management system PostgreSQL.

With the new updates, customers can streamline migrations to PostgreSQL and then optimize its performance and availability. Combined, the two updates help enterprises embrace modern database confidentiality while minimizing risk and costs.

The first new solution, Foglight with the Performance Investigator for PostgreQLE add-on, is designed to enhance database observability and performance optimization. The solution provides deep workload analysis, helping database administrators identify inefficient queries, resolve resource bottlenecks and address locking issues. By delivering advanced insights, Foglight enables enterprises to maintain optimal database performance and ensure smooth application experiences.

Foglight offers a unified view across multiple database environments, not just PostgreSQL, with support for multiple environments critical for enterprises managing complex, multicloud or hybrid landscapes. Foglight ensures consistent visibility, allowing organizations to proactively address performance challenges and avoid costly downtime.

The second new solution announced today, SharePlex, offers robust data replication and migration capabilities tailored to minimize disruption during PostgreSQL adoption.

Offering support for PostgreSQL 17.0, Oracle 23ai, MariaDB 11.4.2 and Google AlloyDB, SharePlex ensures real-time data synchronization across platforms. The solution includes advanced features that enable organizations to migrate databases while reducing downtime and ensuring data accuracy and business continuity.

SharePlex also includes “Compare and Repair” features that address data discrepancies during migrations. The tool allows organizations to run legacy systems and PostgreSQL in parallel to facilitate phased transitions and thorough testing without interrupting critical operations.

“With our new offerings timed with the release of PostgreSQL 17.0, Quest is committed to empowering organizations to leverage PostgreSQL effectively, maximizing performance and simplifying data migration to unlock the full value of their data,” said Bharath Vasudevan, vice president of product management at Quest Software. “Our tools are designed to fill critical gaps, providing enterprises with the advanced capabilities they need to not only survive but thrive in this era of big data, artificial intelligence and large language models.”

Quest, which was once a business unit of Dell Technologies Inc., has been owned by private equity firm Clearlake since 2021.
