BEML partners with NHPC to develop solutions for hydroelectric power plant

Defence PSU Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has signed a MOU with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to develop solutions for hydroelectric power plants.

The partnership is expected to advance desilting and dredging technologies designed to prevent dam sedimentation and address urban waterlogging during the monsoon season. These solutions will expedite the clearing of canals and culverts, while also supporting dredging and desilting operations in inland waterways, coastal regions, ponds, and lakes, according to BEML.

Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BEML, commented, “Through this collaboration, we aim to enhance the efficiency of hydroelectric power plants and contribute to broader national objectives of improving infrastructure and water management systems.”

Furthermore, the solution is anticipated to increase power generation efficiency and reduce maintenance costs, according to R.K. Chaudhary, CMD of NHPC.

Once successfully implemented in pilot projects, the solutions are expected to be scaled up and replicated across other hydroelectric plants, BEML added.
