Capacity Expansion: IGI Airport’s Terminal II to be refurbished

The national capital-based IGI Airport’s Terminal II will undergo a “comprehensive refurbishment” to increase its capacity as well as elevate passenger experience.

As per the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the firm that maintains and operates the IGI Airport, the refurbishment process will modernise key areas of the terminal and surrounding infrastructure.

The refurbishment, DIAL said, is a part of its commitment to create a world-class hub for travellers across India and South-east Asia.

According to DIAL, the enhancements will help accommodate the anticipated surge in domestic passenger numbers.

The refurbishment works are set to commence in the new fiscal year (FY 2025-26), with an expected completion date in Q2 of FY 2025-26.

Consequently, Terminal II will undergo a temporary shutdown for approximately four to six months to complete these improvements.

Dial stated that the temporary closure of Terminal II, is expected to cause minimal disruption to operations, as the newly developed Terminal I will absorb the additional load.

“The refurbishment of the four-decade-old Terminal II is the need of the hour. We, at DIAL, are committed to enhancing the overall passenger experience by upgrading key infrastructure and improving operational efficiency, and elevating passenger comfort,” DIAL’s Chief Executive Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said.

“With the terminal’s projected passenger capacity expected to reach its peak by FY 2025-26, these enhancements will be crucial in supporting the growing demand for air travel, particularly for domestic passengers.”
