Chennai-based Tropical Agro to set up state-of-the-art agri solutions factory in Kharagpur

Chennai-based Tropical Agro, one of the leading companies in sustainable agricultural solutions,  is setting up a state-of-the-art factory in Kharagpur, West Bengal.

The ground-breaking ceremony of the unit has been completed and construction will commence soon. The entire unit is expected to be complete by July 2026.

The factory will manufacture biological and chemical crop protection and plant nutrition products (including insecticides, herbicides and biologicals). This aligns with the company’s goal to cater to growing market demands while promoting sustainability.

With an investment of ₹50 crore, this facility will enhance the company’s production capacity and strengthen its commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods for farmers.

West Bengal, a pivotal market for Tropical Agro, contributes 10 per cent of the company’s sales turnover. This new unit will help the company provide user-friendly, economically viable and resource-efficient products that cover the entire crop cycle.

Expansion plans

The Kharagpur factory, spread across 4 acres, is strategically located to optimise the company’s supply chain. By reducing logistics costs and delivery times, the facility will help reach essential crop inputs even the remotest regions promptly.

In line with Tropical Agro’s sustainability initiatives, the Kharagpur factory will focus on leveraging regional strengths by hiring predominantly local talent. It is expected to generate employment for about 300 people.

The current investment for the Kharagpur facility is financed through internal sources and bank funding.

Tropical Agro is also planning to establish a new factory in Gujarat and relocate its existing facility in Ambattur to a high-tech factory in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu. These expansions will help enhance production capabilities and target higher turnover.
