Emin Mahrt, a German-Turkish software entrepreneur, has made his impact in a variety of areas, including independent media and blockchain technology. Born in Berlin from a German-Austrian mother working as a social worker and a Turkish immigrant father who was a film producer, Emin’s life path has been vibrant and creative.

Why Emin Mahrt Started an Independent Magazine

Following his IT and political degree, Emin chose to spend two years living in Hong Kong. This Asian trip let him see things from fresh angles. He started “Proud,” an independent journal emphasizing sociopolitical concerns, after he got back to Berlin.

Apart from printing more than thirty issues with a total circulation of 1.5 million copies, the magazine has been acknowledged by the Association of German Journalists (DFJV) for its cultural influence. Now housed in the German National Library, “Proud” reflects its major influence on the space of independent media.

Plunging into the World of Technology and Blockchain

Not content to live only in the media industry, Emin entered the technology industry, starting multiple companies. He started ‘Dropspot,’ a location-based news tool, in 2012 with Axel Springer SE’s sponsorship. Then, in 2014, he created ‘Abend,’ an ad-tech and mobile event ticketing tool that attracted Series A funding and was finally sold in 2016. ​​

But the major turning point in his career came in 2016 when he chose to concentrate on blockchain and Bitcoin evolution. This decision brought him to be Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Product Officer (CPO) at æternity, a public blockchain initiative housed in Liechtenstein. æternity became the first unicorn of the nation under his direction, valued at more than a billion dollars.

Emin also serves as a board member at the æternity crypto foundation, a non-profit organization focused on the development of open-source blockchain technology.

Business Diversification: From Fashion to Real Estate

Not stopping in the tech industry, Emin debuted ‘Two Eyes London,’ a mask-centric fashion jewelry company, in 2021. Furthermore, under active participation is a Berlin real estate development project in 2022.
