Fortis Healthcare names Leo Puri as new Chairman of the Board

Fortis Healthcare Limited, one of India’s leading healthcare providers, appointed Leo Puri as its new Chairman of the Board, effective December 27, 2024. The appointment, approved by the company’s Board of Directors, designates Puri as an Additional Independent Director for a five-year term, subject to shareholder approval.

At noon today, the shares of Fortis Healthcare Limited were trading at ₹659.95, down ₹12.25 or 1.82 per cent on the NSE.

Puri succeeds Indrajit Banerjee, who has served as interim Chairman since October 1, 2024. Banerjee will continue as a board member and maintain his committee positions within the company.

A veteran financial sector leader, Puri brings four decades of experience to Fortis. He most recently served as executive Chairman for South & South East Asia at JP Morgan Chase until late 2023 and currently holds the position of senior advisor and Chairman, India at Apax, a global private equity firm. His extensive career includes senior roles at McKinsey & Company and UTI Asset Management Company.

Puri currently serves as an independent director on the boards of several major corporations, including Tata Sons, Hindustan Unilever, and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.

Fortis Healthcare operates 28 healthcare facilities across India, with approximately 4,700 operational beds and 419 diagnostics labs. The company focuses on integrated healthcare delivery through hospitals, diagnostics, and daycare specialty facilities.
