Here’s what to expect from Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Unpacked event

Like in past years, Samsung has announced that it will unveil its new S series smartphones at an upcoming Unpacked keynote on January 22nd at 1pm ET/10am PT in San Jose, California. Samsung will present the stream on its website and YouTube channel.

We expect Samsung to reveal the frequently leaked Galaxy S25 series during the keynote.

Below is what we know about the S25 line, including the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25. Unfortunately, the rumoured Galaxy S25 Slim will launch later this year.

It’s worth mentioning that all three devices will reportedly have a more intelligent and improved Bixby powered by a large language model (LLM).  This Bixby was first spotted in the Samsung W series, a special edition of Samsung’s Z Fold and Flip devices reportedly heading to China. The new Bixby can understand natural language and context and supports continued conversations. Next-gen Bixby can extract information from the screen and other apps like Calendar and Notes, offering multi-coloured animations like Gemini and Siri. Next-gen Bixby will go hand-in-hand with One UI 7.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumoured to be the thinnest and lightest of the ‘ultra’ flagship phones, such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro XL. For comparison, the S24 Ultra weighs about 233g and is 8.6mm thick, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 8.3mm thick and weighs 221g, which means the S25 Ultra will be thinner and lighter. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is expected to sport smaller bezels with a bigger screen alongside being thinner and lighter.

The S25 Ultra is also expected to sport round corners a flat frame. This pushes the design to match the other S25 handsets, and also follows the designs of other flagships on the market.

According to retail sources, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen will no longer feature Bluetooth. You’ll also lose features like gestures and remote control.

Live dummy units of the S25 Ultra surfaced online, showcasing the phone’s appearance. Rumours also suggest that the S25 series will offer new colours with a MagSafe-style case, similar to the OnePlus 13.

What else can we see?

We’ll unlikely get a full unveiling of anything else at the event; however, we might see some teasers. We may get a look at the Galaxy Ring 2, which will add two more sizes from the original model. It will also add new AI features and updated sensors for accurate measurements.

Additionally, we might get a look at the Samsung AR glasses, which will reportedly look like prescription glasses and sport Google’s Gemini AI. Google also said that it and Samsung are working on Project Moohan, a new AR headset. It’s possible we might get a live-action look at this device.
