India’s second largest passenger vehicles maker Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) on Wednesday reported a year-on-year (YoY) decline of 1.3 per cent in its domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers), selling 42,208 units in December 2024 against 42,750 units in same month previous year.
Exports also declined by 6.1 per cent YoY to 12,870 units during the month as compared with 13,700 units in December 2023.
“HMIL has managed to sustain sales momentum in 2024, despite strong headwinds faced by the industry at large… Introduction of the innovative Hy-CNG Duo technology in 2024 resonated well with buyers, translating to the highest ever CNG contribution of 13.1 per cent to HMIL’s domestic sales in CY 2024, against 10.4 per cent in CY 2023,” Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL, said.

However, sports utility vehicle (SUV) maker Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) reported a growth of 18 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in its domestic wholesales to 41,424 units in December as compared with 35,174 in the same month last year.
Its commercial vehicles sales also grew by 9 per cent YoY in domestic market at 19,502 units in December as compared with 17,888 units in the corresponding month in 2023.
Tractor sales of the company grew by 22 per cent YoY to 22,019 units during the month as against 18,028 units in December 2023.
“Sentiments have remained positive in December on account of positive cash flow momentum from Kharif harvest. Additionally, favourable reservoir levels have resulted in strong sowing for the rabi season, further bolstering demand for tractors. Looking ahead, the tractor industry is poised for significant growth, underpinned by positive agricultural sentiments and favourable terms of trade for farmers,” Hemant Sikka, President – Farm Equipment Sector, M&M, said.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported a YoY growth of 29 per cent in its sales to 29,529 units in December 2024, compared to the 22,867 units sold in December 2023. The company sold 24,887 units in the domestic market and exported 4,642 units, it said.
“As we shift gears into 2025, we remain committed to contributing to India’s automotive growth story by driving innovation, expanding customer touchpoints, and offering greener mobility solutions. Given the existing trend, we are confident of further consolidating our market position thus playing a larger role in driving sustainable mobility along with globalising India’s automobile manufacturing base,” Sabari Manohar – Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, TKM, said.
JSW MG Motor India also said it has achieved a YoY growth of 55 per cent in December 2024 wholesales by selling 7,516 units as compared with 4,848 units in December 2023.

The company also reached new heights in December 2024, recording its highest-ever electric vehicle (EV) sales, which accounted for over 70 per cent of the total sales in the month, it said.
MG Windsor maintains top spot in passenger vehicle EV sales for the third consecutive month with 3,785 units, the company added.
In the two-wheeler segment, Bajaj Auto reported a decline of 19 per cent YoY in its domestic sales to 1,28,335 units in December 2024, as against 1.58,370 units in December 2023. However, its exports grew by 15 per cent YoY to 1,43,838 units as compared with 1,24,631 in the corresponding month previous year.
In the tractor segment, Escorts Kubota reported domestic sales of 5,016 units in December, a YoY decline of 12.5 per cent as compared with 5,731 units in December 2023.
