I Am Canadian guy returns after 25 years to tell Trump he’s a hoser

A legend has returned when we needed him most.

Jeff Douglas, the Truro, N.S. native who starred in Molson’s famous “I Am Canadian” ad in 2000, has a new patriotic message to share, and he’s directed it squarely at U.S. President Donald Trump.

“Hey. I know it’s in our nature to cut a guy some slack, give him the benefit of the doubt. Like, maybe he was confused or just joking or really needed a double-double,” a flannel-clad Douglas begins in a video titled “We Are Canadian,” which was uploaded to a new YouTube channel called AverageJoes.

“But this isn’t that guy,” he says, before the screen behind him cuts to Trump’s smug face. To make his point clear, Douglas notes that Canada “isn’t the 51st anything,” a reference to Trump’s repeated comments about annexing Canada.

Douglas then proceeds to proudly discuss all kinds of Canadiana, from the achievements of Terry Fox and Gord Downie to the invention of peanut butter and ketchup chips. He also has a particularly great poutine-related zinger.

“They mistake our modesty for meekness, our kindness for consent, our nation for another star on their flag. And our love of a hot, cheesy poutine with their love of a hot, cheesy Putin,” he says, referring to Trump’s disgraceful sycophantic behaviour towards the Russian dictator.

To his credit, Douglas also acknowledges that Canada isn’t perfect, with the screen behind him flashing an image of a Canadian soldier confronting a Mohawk land defender during the 1990 Oka Crisis land dispute.

The video was uploaded to the Average Joes channel on Wednesday night and has since accrued 300,000 views at the time of writing. On X (Twitter), Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also shared the video, saying, “Good to have you back.”

On top of Trump’s ridiculous desires to take over the Great White North, the convicted felon has also launched a nonsensical trade war with several countries, including Canada. On March 4th, he imposed 25 percent tariffs on most Canadian goods, although he’s since agreed to pause some of them (Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement goods) for 30 days. This is the second time he’s ordered a month-long halt on levies.

It also comes after Canada announced many of its own retaliatory tariffs, including Ontario’s move to withhold nickel from the U.S. supply chain. In a press conference today, Trudeau said Canada is “united and unequivocal about standing up for our country and standing up for our fellow citizens and being very firm that this is an unjustified and unjustifiable trade war launched by the Americans.”
