The project involves constructing two advanced wastewater treatment facilities: a 54 MLD plant and a 19 MLD plant in Ngwerere and Chunga, respectively. The contract includes a 36-month engineering, procurement, and construction phase, followed by 24 months of operation and maintenance services.

A notable feature of the project is its focus on sustainability, with the plants planned to operate primarily on green energy through a combination of biogas and solar power. This marks WABAG’s entry into the Zambian market, expanding its footprint in Africa.

The Chennai-based water technology company, which has operations in more than 25 countries, won the contract based on its technical expertise and competitive bid. According to Guhan Kandasamy, Head of Sales & Marketing (Africa) at WABAG, this project represents one of Zambia’s largest sanitation initiatives in recent decades and aligns with the Zambian government’s goals to enhance water infrastructure.
