Internet’s cat obsession spawns world’s first fluffy mechanical keyboard

WTF?! The internet is obsessed with cats, which is why the world’s first fluffy mechanical keyboard, the Dry Studio Petbrick 65, might prove quite popular – despite its high price. The $239 device is currently available in two versions, Calico and Odd-eye, and more of these furry abominations are on their way.

Based on everyone’s favorite indifferent animal (don’t come at me – I have two), the Dry Studio Petbrick 65 is a 65% mechanical board currently available to pre-order.

The keyboard itself is made from an aluminum CNC frame. The cat part primarily relates to the hand-made outer fluffy shells that have a “plush texture similar to Jellycat toys.” They attach with magnets, so they can be swapped out for other designs with ease. Being removable also means easier cleaning – most people know how filthy keyboards can get, so adding a fluffy, debris-attracting ring around the outside doesn’t sound too hygienic.

In addition to the furriness, cat fans will likely appreciate the feline-themed key caps on the boards, such as the cat leg on the Shift key and the cartoon cat/paws on the space bar. The keys’ colors are also matching.

The keyboards themselves sound fairly high-end, as one would expect for the price. They feature wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz connectivity, and come equipped with Angry Miao’s patented Leaf-Spring mount, featuring an 8-layer construction for optimal sound and feel.

The system includes a variety of components, including a sandblasted POM plate, specially tuned cotton poron, IXPE 8 switch pad, and two layers of ultra-low-density EPDM sound-dampening foam. There’s also customizable RGB lighting that comes with three pre-set lighting modes.

The Dry Studio Petbrick 65 is equipped with Crystal Pink switches (below) developed by Dry Studio. They feature a high-gloss, high-transparency mold that improves the effect of RGB lighting. It promises a linear, smooth, and responsive typing experience that should be pretty quiet with all that sound-dampening material.

Even with all those components and the fluffy factor, $239 is a big ask for a keyboard. It’s almost the same price as the Asus ROG Azoth Wireless Keyboard was when I reviewed it in 2023. That stunning wireless device has an ultra-premium feel and an OLED screen in the corner. Asus has since released a new “Extreme” model with a full-color OLED that costs $499. Your cat probably won’t like it as much, though.
