Jeju Island to Launch NFT Tourism Cards in 2025

  • Jeju Island plans to launch NFT-based tourism cards in 2025, offering travel benefits and attraction discounts.
  • The NFT tourism cards will integrate with Jeju’s Tamna Jeon stablecoin to enhance visitors’ experiences.

Jeju Island, South Korea’s most popular tourist destination, is taking a huge step forward by adopting blockchain technology to boost its tourism sector. Based on non-fungible token (NFT) technology, the provincial government just revealed intentions to launch a tourism card project in 2025.

Named “Tao,” these NFT-based travel cards will work as digital visitor passes providing a range of advantages to guests, including travel subsidies, membership rights, and discounts at well-known destinations.

This effort seeks to recruit tech-savvy visitors—especially from millennial and Gen Z groups—who are drawn to creative and digital-first experiences more and more.

Jeju’s Vision: Merging Blockchain and Tourism for a Seamless Experience

This project distinguishes itself by including Tamna Jeon, a stablecoin run-through driven by Jeju’s blockchain. Introduced in 2019 to help the local economy, this local money is extensively used by inhabitants at stores and local businesses, therefore rewarding both consumers and merchants.

The concept aims to provide visitors a smooth and enhanced experience by tying Tamna Jeon with the NFT-based tourism cards. Travelers will be able to advantage of discounts, special offers, and subsidies by means of a digital platform improving their contact with Jeju’s attractions and services.

With intentions for a wider distribution to domestic visitors later in 2025, the provincial government is getting ready to test the Tao card in the next months. Using blockchain and Web3 technology to support its tourism industry, agriculture, and local business, this initiative fits Jeju Island’s larger ambition of being a “NFT city.”

Governor Oh Young-hoon underlined the need of including sophisticated technologies to revive the local economy and give visitors a distinctive and modern experience.

This project addresses changing tourism habits as much as it is about invention. Jeju wants to stand out from other locations by offering NFT-based tourism cards, thereby attracting international visitors looking for more individualized and tech-driven encounters.

Combining these digital resources with physical advantages also provides a structure for frequent trips, thereby promoting long-term interaction with the offers of the area.

On the other hand, CNF previously revealed that, with 15.59 million domestic virtual asset investors documented as of November, over 30% of South Koreans make investments in cryptocurrency.

Furthermore, South Korea’s choice to postpone its tax on cryptocurrency until 2027 shows how much the government supports the growing digital asset sector.
