Nigerian runners excelled in the 5km race, also winning the majority of prizes designated for ECOWAS citizens.

Thousands of runners participated in the event, which commenced at the ECOWAS Commission on Yakubu Gowon Way. The 21km race offered a $10,000 prize for the winners, while the 5km race also featured cash prizes for top finishers.

Notable participants included former presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore and his #Run with Sowore Group. Blessing Mozie, a staff member of the Down Syndrome Foundation of Nigeria, participated in the 5km race, emphasizing the health benefits of running.

“I think running is something everybody should do because of its immense health benefits,” Mozie stated. “For me, running is not a fashion statement but a way of life because it is good for the body generally, and I am encouraging everybody to embrace the culture of running; the benefits are immeasurable.”

Approximately 5,000 Nigerian and international runners competed for a total prize pool of $71,000. The 21km race winners received $10,000 each. All first 200 finishers received bronze medals.
