Mangaluru International Airport witnesses 17.13% growth in passenger handling in 2024

Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) handled 22,57,621 passengers during the calendar year 2024 against 19,27,466 handled in 2023, registering a growth of 17.13 per cent.

The airport handled 15,80,747 domestic passengers in 2024 against 13,24,806 passengers in 2023, recordinng a growth 19.33 per cent. International passengers handled at MIA increased to 6,76,874 in 2024 from 6,02,660 in 2023, registering a growth of 12.31 per cent.

The airport also recorded its highest ever number of passengers in December 2024, with 2,06,410 passengers since commercial operation date of October 31 2020, surpassing previous records. The previous highest number was 2,02,892 handled in October 2024.

For the first nine months of the financial year 2024-25, MIA handled a total of 17,28,686 passengers against 14,89,861 during the same period of 2023-24. This represented a growth of 16 per cent.

The number of domestic travellers increased by 16.8 per cent in the first nine months of 2024-25 with 11,98,535 passengers compared to 10,26,088 in the first nine months of 2023-24. International travel also saw an increase of 14.3 per cent, with 5,30,151 passengers travelling in the first nine months of 2024-25 against 4,63,773 in the same period of 2023-24.

Air traffic movement

The scheduled commercial air traffic movements (ATMs) at MIA also saw a substantial increase. In 2024, the airport handled 16,416 ATMs, compared to 13,860 ATMs in 2023, a growth of 18.44 per cent. The general aviation traffic grew by 6.17 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023 with the airport handling 340 chartered flights in 2024 as against 319 handled in 2023.

The ATMs for the first nine months of 2024-25 also showed a growth of16 per cent. MIA handled 12,116 ATMs during April-December 2024-25 against 10,448 ATMs in corresponding period of 2023-24.

A media statement said this impressive growth in passenger traffic and ATMs is a testament to MIA’s continuous efforts to enhance its infrastructure, expand connectivity, and improve passenger services. The airport remains committed to providing exceptional service, ensuring passenger safety, and promoting sustainable practices, it added.
