Share prices of Zomato, Reliance Industries, Nestle India, Tata Steel, and Asian Paints emerged as the top gainers among the Sensex stocks, while technology and banking sectors faced heavy selling pressure.
The Sensex and Nifty both ended in the red, marking a significant decline. The Sensex fell 0.55 per cent or 423.49 points to close at 76,619.33, while the Nifty dropped 0.47 per cent or 108.60 points to end at 23,203.20.
Top Gainers
Zomato led the pack with an impressive gain of 2.79 per cent, reaching ₹248.75. Energy giant Reliance Industries followed with a strong 2.57 per cent increase, closing at ₹1,301.30. Nestle India showed remarkable strength, rising 2.26 per cent to ₹2,219.30. Tata Steel and Asian Paints rounded out the top gainers, advancing 1.96 per cent and 1.95 per cent respectively.
Top Losers
The technology sector faced significant pressure, with Infosys leading the losses with a sharp decline of 5.77 per cent, closing at ₹1,815.10. Axis Bank saw a considerable drop of 4.71 per cent, ending at ₹991.25. Kotak Mahindra Bank fell 2.58 per cent to ₹1,758.65, while Mahindra & Mahindra declined 2.11 per cent. TCS also faced selling pressure, dropping 1.96 per cent to close at ₹4,125.70.
The market showed weakness despite a slightly higher opening, with Sensex opening at 77,069.19 versus the previous close of 77,042.82. The Nifty, however, opened lower at 23,277.10 compared to its previous close of 23,311.80, setting a cautious tone for the day’s trading session.
