NCLT withdraws judicial work from technical member of Chandigarh Bench amid complaints

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has withdrawn judicial responsibilities from a Technical Member, Umesh Kumar Shukla, of its Chandigarh Bench following complaints of misconduct and inefficiency.

The decision was made by the NCLT’s Principal Bench in New Delhi to maintain the Tribunal’s integrity and ensure the efficient administration of justice.

The member in question had been facing multiple complaints regarding their handling of cases. Following an internal review, the Principal Bench ordered the reassignment of all cases previously allocated to the member, redistributing them among other benches to prevent delays or disruptions in the Tribunal’s proceedings.

This decisive move underscores the NCLT’s commitment to upholding the highest professional standards among its members. The reallocation of cases is expected to ensure that matters before the Chandigarh Bench proceed seamlessly, without compromising the interests of litigants.

The NCLT, a critical quasi-judicial body in India, adjudicates matters related to corporate law, insolvency, and bankruptcy. It plays a vital role in resolving corporate disputes and ensuring compliance with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) and related regulatory frameworks.

This development comes at a time when the Tribunal is under scrutiny to address procedural inefficiencies and backlogs, particularly as corporate disputes and insolvency cases continue to rise. Legal and corporate stakeholders are closely watching how the NCLT addresses internal governance issues while maintaining public confidence in its functioning.
