Ola Electric CTO Suvonil Chatterjee quits

EV maker Ola Electric’s CTO and Product Officer Suvonil Chatterjee, has quit the company, according to sources.

Chatterjee, who previously worked as the design lead at e-commerce firm Flipkart, joined Ola’s mobility services in 2017 as Head of Design. He later became Chief Product Officer in 2021 and was promoted to Chief Technology and Product Officer in 2022. Chatterjee played a significant role in building Ola Krutrim and Ola Maps.

The company has not responded to a detailed questionnaire shared by businessline. The copy will be updated once the company responds.

This comes at a time when Ola Electric is expanding its service network. Recently, the company opened 3,200 service stations across the country, taking its network to 4,000 stations.

Exits mar Ola’s growth

Ola Electric has seen C-suite level exits in the recent past. In December, Balachandar N, Chief Human Resources Officer, resigned after a 4-year stint.

Additionally, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer Pramendra Tomar has also stepped down.

In August 2023, Slokarth Dash, Head of Planning and Strategy, resigned from the company. In 2019, co-founder and CTO Ankit Bhati also left the firm.

The company was also undergoing a restructuring exercise across multiple levels and roles, businessline had earlier reported. This process was expected to impact around 500 employees as part of efforts to reduce redundancy, improve margins, and drive long-term profitability.

The company has reduced the losses by 5 per cent year-on-year (YoY) for Q2FY25 to ₹495 crore from ₹524 crore in the year-ago period. The revenue for the Q2FY25 stood at ₹1,240 crore, up by 38.5 per cent y-o-y, as against ₹896 crore in the same quarter last year.

The shares of the company were trading at ₹91.32, down by 2.28 per cent on the BSE at 2:34 PM.
