One has to understand turf, perspectives and do best for the economy: Sanjay Malhotra

Newly-appointed Reserve Bank of India Governor, Sanjay Malhotra, has assured taking best possible steps for the economy after understanding new turf. Malhotra will take charge on Wednesday.

“One has to understand the turf, all perspectives and do what’s the best for the economy,” Malhotra, who has seldom shared his views on the economy in public, told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday. The government notified his appointment on Monday, just a day before Shaktikanta Das’ term as Governor ended on Tuesday.

“Let me first join and understand the turf; perspectives will change,” said the IAS officer from the 1990 batch of Rajasthan cadre. He was the topper in his batch. An IITian and a Princeton University alumnus, Malhotra has been appointed as RBI Governor for three years.
