Petcube’s new water fountain aims to protect your cat’s urinary health

Dehydration is a major cause of illness in cats and affects millions of them each year. To address this issue, Petcube, a pet tech company known for its smart cameras and treat dispensers, introduced its first pet water fountain at CES 2025 on Tuesday. This fountain gives pets access to clean, safe water when their owners are away, which helps prevent dehydration and reduces the risk of urinary and kidney diseases.

Cats have a tendency to enjoy drinking water from a running faucet instead of a bowl placed on the ground, thanks to their inherent instincts. The pet water fountain from Petcube encourages cats to engage with their natural behaviors with its gentle, flowing stream of filtered water. (It’s also marketed for small dog breeds.)

While there are many water fountains available on the market, Petcube claims that its fountain provides “nearly 100% water purification,” free from particles, chlorine, and pollutants. The company explains that this level of purification is achieved through UV-C antibacterial light and a four-layer filtration system.

Additionally, the fountain includes app integration to monitor filter change cycles, alerting users when it’s time to replace the filter and prevent harmful substances from entering the fountain. The tank can hold enough water to last around a week, and the battery lasts for 20 days.

Petcube’s new water fountain will help the company compete closely with other pet tech leaders such as PetSafe and Petlibro, and its pricing is in line with similar products on the market. It’s available for preorder at $90 with a ceramic basin and $70 with a stainless steel bowl. Shipments begin March 1.
