PM Modi proposes 11 pledges including development for all, social boycott of corrupts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday proposed 11 pledges in order to maintain the spirit of the Constitution and to achieve the aim of making India a developed nation by 2047. These pledges include development for all and zero tolerance for corruption.

Concluding the discussion on the Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi called for everyone, be it government or individual, to fulfill their basic duties. “India can’t be stopped from becoming a developed nation if every Indian fulfills the Basic Duties,” he said in his nearly 2 hour speech.

Other pledges include Sabka Sath, sabka vikas (all round development by taking everyone together), no tolerance for corruption and the corrupt should be socially boycotted, Indians should feel pride, colonial mindset needs to be shed, the Nation’s politics need to freed from family-led politics, the Constitution needs to be respected and shouldn’t be weaponised, India should become a model for other in women-led development and One India, Best India.

“Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas is not just a slogan, but an article of faith for us. We will ensure benefits reach everyone,” he said.

Making a difference between constitutional amendments by the Congress and by the NDA, he said changes brought by his government weren’t done to tighten grip on power, in contrast with the Congress. Training guns at the Nehru-Gandhi family of the Congress, he said they left no stone unturned to strike blows to the Constitution. “This family challenged the Constitution at every level,” he said, adding that he was singling out the family as its members were in power for 55 years.

“Tasted blood”

The family, having “tasted blood”, repeatedly wounded the Constitution, he said, citing several decisions of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi when they held the office of prime minister. Their next generation is also into the same game, he said in a swipe at the Leader of Opposition in the House Rahul Gandhi and his MP sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

His government, Modi said, repealed Article 370 to unify the country and brought in GST to roll out “one nation one tax” regime.

He hailed India‘s journey since the adoption of the Constitution in 1949 as “extraordinary”, asserting that the country’s ancient democratic roots have long been an inspiration for the world. India is not only a big democracy but it is the mother of democracy, he said in the Lok Sabha replying to a two-day debate on the 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution.

Modi said India has resolved to become a developed country by 2047 and its unity is the biggest requirement to achieve the goal. “Our Constitution is the basis of our unity,” he said.

Earlier, in his speech, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi cited Hindutva idealogue V D Savarkar’s criticism of the Constitution that there was “nothing Indian about it” to attack the BJP and said the ruling party is “defaming and ridiculing” its own “supreme leader” when it talks about protecting the Constitution. The BJP and the RSS are “supporters of Manusmriti” but the country will be run on the Constitution, Gandhi said.

Drawing a parallel with the story of Eklavya who had to chop off his thumb as ‘Guru Dakshina’ to Dronacharya, Gandhi alleged that by creation of “monopolies” for the Adani Group in various sectors, bringing in the Agnipath scheme, firing teargas at protesting farmers, bringing in lateral entry and allowing paper leaks, the government was “chopp
