Karnataka Health, and Family Welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that the state has taken all necessary precautions to handle Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) and the situation is under control.
“Our healthcare team monitors his condition to ensure he receives the best possible care. I want to reassure everyone that the situation is currently under control, and we are taking all necessary precautions to prevent further transmission,” Rao posted on X.
“The Health Department is fully prepared to manage any potential increase in cases and is working diligently to maintain the health and safety of our community,” he added.

He noted that a child has been confirmed with the HMPV.
While speaking to media he said that if tests are conducted more cases are likely to be found. He added that this is not a new virus and older people might also be affected.
“Other variants of HMPV might be there, I can’t say that this is the first case, or that it has spread everywhere. But it is our responsibility to stay cautious, “ he said.
Siddaramaiah addressing the media said, “We will take all precautions. The Health Ministry is discussing, and based on their recommendations, we will take necessary actions,”
On Saturday, the Union Health Ministry stated that there is no need to panic over the recent surge in respiratory illness cases in China, as reported by The Hindu. The Ministry emphasised that the “situation in China is not unusual” and assured that India is well-prepared to manage respiratory infections effectively.
The statement was issued following a Joint Monitoring Group meeting convened by the Health Ministry to assess the situation. The Ministry highlighted that officials are closely monitoring updates from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other international bodies to stay informed about any potential risks.
