Soukya to invest ₹220 crore for Portugal venture

Soukya, an integrative medical centre has committed ₹220 crore to establish its first international facility in Portugal.

The new facility will span 150 acres and feature 40 villas and suites, according to Dr Isaac Mathai, Founder Chairman, Medical Director, Soukya International Holistic Health Centre.

Dr. Mathai explained that the decision to establish the facility in Portugal followed an extensive evaluation process. “We were looking at multiple locations for the last five years. After considering a lot of factors, including cost of living, operating conditions, and the feasibility of transferring staff from here, we decided on Portugal,” he said.

Elaborating on the investment details, Dr Mathai said, “The ₹220 crore will be borrowed, as interest rates are low over there. The European Union provides funding for eco-friendly projects, and we qualify under that category. Around 25-30 per cent will be our funding.

Dr. Mathai highlighted Portugal’s growing appeal as a wellness destination for aging populations from the United States, Europe, and beyond. “Portugal is becoming a destination for the aging population seeking health and well-being. This presents a tremendous opportunity for us. We will establish our facility and then expand further as the need arises,” he noted.

The announcement comes amid significant growth in the AYUSH sector. . According to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the AYUSH services sector is expected to be valued at $26 billion by 2024, contributing to an overall industry valuation exceeding $50 billion. The manufacturing segment within the AYUSH sector has also grown considerably, increasing from $18 billion in 2020 to a projected $24 billion by 2024.
