Electric bus maker Switch Mobility on Wednesday said that it was confident of doubling its sales every year for the next three years, especially with new launches and participating in tenders in various States.
“We have about 700 buses as of now in India. In the last two years – 700 buses in India and 250 buses in UK – so globally about 1,000 buses on the road. This year with the launch of new products, we are looking at doubling our numbers every year for the next three years. That is our intention and with the products already we have running in India, we are pretty confident,” Mahesh Babu, Chief Executive Officer, Switch Mobility told businessline.
Speaking on the sidelines of new launches here, Babu said in India, the company already has an order of 1,700-plus buses from various States and will continue to participate in tenders.
“I am sure we will be able to add more numbers into the volume…we are not only playing in India, but also globally, with these products. We have just started, and made around 200 buses already. Once the depots are ready, these buses will be supplied for Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai from next month and we will continuously deliver for next one year,” he said, adding that the company was actively participating in tenders in Mumbai, Gujarat, Patna, and other cities across India.
Low-floor buses
Part of the Hinduja Group and a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, Switch Mobility launched two low-floor electric city buses — EiV12 and E1—equipped with chassis-mounted batteries featuring a scalable battery capacity of over 400+ kWh.
While the EiV12 is indigenously designed, developed and manufactured for urban city commutes in India, the E1 is being manufactured for its export markets in Europe and rolled for Spain as its first market.
“In addition to the EiV12 and E1, Switch is developing a range of new products to expand our global offerings. At Switch Mobility, we are driving a greener future and advancing our long-term vision to democratise electric mobility worldwide,” Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Switch Mobility, said.
The India electric city bus market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 21 per cent by 2030 with an electric vehicle penetration of 70 per cent. The total parc for electric city buses is likely to cross 70,000 units by 2030.
