If you’re the owner of a modern Tesla and have discovered that things can go awry when your EV’s external cameras have gotten dirty, rejoice, things are set to improve.
Tesla has announced that it is working on a way to keep the cameras on the Cybertruck clean in a post on the X social network and it’s hoped that these same ideas will work their way to other electric vehicles in the company’s lineups.
As Electrek reports, drivers who use Tesla’s Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (Supervised) driver-assist features are likely familiar with an alert that warns them the system may not work correctly because “one or more cameras are obstructed”.
The issue crops up when the cameras have been covered in dirt while driving, especially in inclement weather conditions. The issue is exacerbated on the CyberTruck because of the lack of a rear window — the rear-view camera is the only way to see what’s going on behind the truck.
Now, in a post on X Tesla says that it is working on “a more comprehensive cleaning solution” but did not go into specifics.
That means that we don’t know what that cleaning solution will be nor when it is likely to be implemented. We also don’t yet know whether the new system will be retrofitted to older versions of the Cybertruck or other Tesla vehicles, either.
