There might be a ton of new Apple hardware in 2025: report

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has outlined what he thinks Apple will do in 2025, starting with a new iPad and iPhone SE coming early this spring. Keep in mind that most of these leaks and rumours have been reported on previously, and this is a round-up of all of those. That said, Gurman is usually fairly accurate so you can expect most of his information to be true.

He expects the M4 MacBook Air to be released in both sizes soon since it’s already in production. On top of this, Gurman predicts that the M3 Air might disappear after the new M4 model. This means that the M2 Air will stick around longer as Apple’s lower-cost Air.

After the Air, he expects Apple to release the iPhone SE, a base-level iPad and new iPad Air models. There are also expected to be new cheaper Magic Keyboards to go with the iPad. The iPhone SE will be the standout device and will drop the home button, bringing modern iPhone design to all customers. It may also be the debut of Apple’s in-house modem.

The base iPads are expected to get boosted to the A17 Pro chip to support Apple Intelligence. This is the same processor as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPad mini. However, if the chips align on the iPad and iPad mini, it will make it harder for Apple to explain the price difference between the two models.

I think the iPad Airs are less likely to be revamped because they were refreshed in 2024, but Gurman predicted new Airs will release with chip upgrades.

Home Hub, MacBooks and more

Then there is the long-rumoured Apple Home Hub, which is expected to be revealed in the spring but might be released later in the year. This device will allow people to control their smart homes from a central location and sets the stage as an Apple smart home device that will ideally have enough power to support the next generation of Siri.

In the first half of the year, Gurman expects a Mac Studio upgrade with the M4 Ultra chipset. That appears to be the old upgrade coming to the Apple Desktop computer.

Then, in the fall, the company will debut new watches, iPhones and AirPods. The Apple Watch SE will get a nice upgrade, but the Series 11 and Ultra 3 will retain the same look as their predecessors. The biggest change comes to the Ultra, which will get satellite and reduced capability (RedCap) 5G network access. RedCap is a version of 5G optimized for devices like wearables that should offer better battery savings and higher throughput compared to LTE.

The 2025 AirPods, likely to be AirPods Pro 3, are rumoured to have heart rate sensors and could even monitor other health data as well. These will launch alongside a revamped Apple Health app.

Prepare for iPhone 17 Air

The star of the iPhone lineup in 2025 is expected to be the iPhone Air, which will be a thinner, mid-tier phone that sits between the iPhone 17 Pro and the regular iPhone 17. The iPhone Air will also use Apple’s in-house modem and should be 2mm thinner than the existing lineup of iPhones. Apple is banking on this device selling better than the lacklustre iPhone mini and Plus lines. There will, of course, also be new iPhone 17 and 17 Pro devices released in the fall alongside the new iPhone Air.

Closer to the end of 2025, Gurman predicts new MacBook Pros with M5 chips, but the overall design will remain the same as it has been since the 2021 refresh. However, there will likely be significant changes to the MacBook Pro line next year, including a thinner design and an OLED screen.

Other products like the AirTag, HomePod mini and Apple TV settop box are all likely candidates to be upgraded as well. Gurman doesn’t expect to see another Vision Pro this year and instead expects a follow-up to Apple’s headset to launch in 2026 with an. M5 chip.
