Revolut and the 2024 investment trends of Italians: NVIDIA stocks in first place

Revolut has published a report on what the investment trends of Italians have been for 2024.

The super app financial stated that Italy was the country that recorded the highest growth of trading users in the European Economic Area, with an increase of 470% year on year.

On average, the super app stated that for 2024, the average size of the Revolut investment account in Italy was €1,578.

Speaking of trends, instead, it seems that the stocks of technology companies have captured Italian investors, preferring them to other asset classes.

NVIDIA has emerged as the most bought and sold U.S. stock among Italians, likely driven by investor enthusiasm for advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). Not surprisingly, the company’s stock price has risen by an astonishing 186% in 2024.

As for ETFs, the favorite among Italians was iShares Edge MSCI World Quality Factor ETF (Acc), with a 26% increase in trading volume in 2024.

Fusion Fuel Green was ranked as the most bought and sold European stock, while U.S. government bonds are at the top of the list of preferred bonds.

Revolut Italia and the investment portfolio of Italians 2024

Revolut also reported that in Italy, investments remain predominantly male.

In fact, it seems that men hold over four times more accounts than women and that the average portfolios are twice as large as those of women, exactly 1,727€ compared to 765€.

Nevertheless, Revolut has noted that Italian women are rapidly entering the investment sector. In fact, in 2024 alone, the increase in women who have opened investment accounts was 619%, compared to the 530% growth for men.

Not only that, when talking about Italian investment portfolios, in 2024 a preference for diversified asset classes emerged. On average, Italian investment portfolios are composed of 59% in US and EU stocks, 38% in ETFs, and 4% in bonds.

In this regard, Rolandas Juteika, Head of Wealth and Trading (EEA) at Revolut, said:

“The year 2024 was extraordinary, with key indices like S&P 500 and Nasdaq recording impressive growth of 24% and 31%, respectively. The rise of artificial intelligence and technological innovation fueled investor enthusiasm, along with the stabilization of inflation rates and a rebound in consumer confidence. The elections in the United States injected additional momentum into the stock market rally, with major indices reaching record highs day after day. At Revolut, we continued to empower investors with various options for commission-free trading within their plan and will continue to expand this list in 2025”.

The launch of the Italian IBAN

Last month, Revolut announced the official launch of its branch in Italy, along with the launch of the Italian IBAN.

In practice, the Italian branch of Revolut Bank UAB has officially become an Italian bank, now supervised by the Bank of Italy and the ECB.

Furthermore, Revolut can now offer an Italian IBAN, which starts with IT, instead of Lithuanian (LT) as it has done until now.
This means that Italian customers of the global financial super app can use Revolut as their main account.
