With PM’s attendance at Bharat Mobility Expo yet to be confirmed, automakers face uncertainty over new launches

With the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) yet to confirm his attendance for the inaugural session of the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo, automobile manufacturers are struggling to schedule their launch events at the venue.

Usually, the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) starts the event with the first launch at the expo, followed by Hyundai Motor India and the others, including two-wheeler makers. The first edition of Bharat Mobility was held in February 1-3 this year, by bringing together the entire mobility value chain under one roof. However, it was more of a display event that showcased future mobility rather than new launches. But, this time it will coincide with the Auto Expo (held biennially) and new launches will also take place.

For instance, Maruti Suzuki will introduce its first eBorn – e Vitara at the Expo 2025. The e Vitara is a global model manufactured in India for the world, and was recently unveiled by Suzuki Motor Corporation at Milan, Italy. Similarly, Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors, M&M, Skoda Volkswagen India and Kia India are expected to unveil new vehicles.

Sources close to the development in the industry as well as government told businessline that they are awaiting confirmation and once it comes, they would schedule the launches and set the event agenda.

“The invite has gone to the PMO two weeks ago and a revert is still awaited,” an official aware of the development told businessline.

Sources from the industry said they were in touch with the organisers almost everyday, to understand the security protocol so that they can arrange their shows accordingly, on the first day.

“It’s a big event and we have to plan accordingly so that there is no hiccups at the last moment. We have been seeking a clarity from the organisers on the PM’s visit to the venue,” said a Delhi-NCR based automaker.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) would be organising the 17th edition of Auto Expo – The Motor Show under the aegis of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 from January 17 to 22, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, in partnership with Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

According to SIAM, 34 vehicle manufacturers will be participating at the exhibition and showcasing vehicle technologies with respect to multiple power trains.
